Born in 1978 in Mutare, Zimbabwe, Natasha lives and works in Lusaka, Zambia. Having moved to Zambia at the age of eight—the country of her parents’ birth—her practice is shaped by layered geographies and inherited landscapes. Questions of belonging, memory, and surface quietly underpin her work.

Originally trained in Illustration at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth (First Class Honours, 2005), Natasha’s practice evolved beyond image-making into a materially driven exploration of process. Though academically grounded in illustration, her work maintains a strong fine art sensibility, where material investigation and physical engagement with surface take precedence over narrative clarity.

Her practice moves across painting, collage, assemblage, installation, and print. Through drawing, gestural and repetitive mark-making, fragments of text, experimental photography, and tactile layering, she constructs surfaces that function as sites of excavation. Layers are applied, obscured, sanded back, and reworked — suggesting histories embedded in place. Material becomes both metaphor and memory.

Working within a Southern African context, Natasha’s layered compositions can be read as quiet negotiations with postcolonial geography: territories marked, rewritten, and reimagined. Surface operates as a landscape — scarred, repaired, accumulated — reflecting the complexities of cultural inheritance and spatial belonging.

Her mark-making and figurative line carries an intimate, bodily presence. Repetition, rhythm, and subtle gesture introduce a feminine sensibility that resists monumentality, instead privileging touch, tactility, and slow looking. The work unfolds gradually, revealing traces rather than declarations.

Based in Lusaka since 2007, Natasha has presented five solo exhibitions in Zambia and exhibited internationally in France, Switzerland and South Africa. In 2022, she completed extensive commissioned projects for Marriott Bonvoy. After running a professional art framing studio for a decade alongside her practice, she now works full-time from her Lusaka studio, focusing on expanding the conceptual and material scale of her work.

Her practice continues to explore how surface can hold memory — how material can speak where language falls short.
